European spruce (also known as Nordic spruce), scientifically named Pinus silvestris, is widely distributed across various European countries.
Its trees have branches spread along the trunk, with oil concentrated in resin canals. The harvesting period for its timber is around 60-80 years. The growth rings are fine and dense, with a density of up to 460 kg/m3.
The sawn timber of European spruce (Nordic spruce) is available in rough (unfinished) and kiln-dried (moisture content reduced to 12-14%) forms. It is sourced from the upper part of the trunk, representing actively growing sections, resulting in small knots and mostly live knots. Its sawn timber has a high utilization rate, which not only enhances production efficiency but also saves costs.
IKEA, a Swedish home furnishing retail chain, primarily uses European spruce and European red pine for wooden furniture products. These materials offer excellent stability and are widely used worldwide.

European spruce (Northern European spruce) possesses excellent structural strength and processing properties. Depending on the application, it can be used as structural lumber, interior decoration material, solid wood furniture material, DIY woodworking material, and can also be processed into solid wood finger-jointed panels, decorative corner pieces, tongue-and-groove wall panels, and flooring products.
Structural and Decorative Material
European spruce, with its tight grain, high strength, strong structural integrity, and stable properties, is an ideal choice for structural lumber.DIY Woodworking Material
With its lightweight nature, fine grain pattern, and excellent machining characteristics, coupled with easy painting and gluing, European spruce is suitable for various woodworking and cabinet-making processes, making it an excellent choice for woodworking DIY projects.Furniture Manufacturing Material
The white and delicate wood grain of spruce, along with its small knots and mostly live knots, is often used in furniture manufacturing.
